Prairie Burger
1 lb medium ground beef
1/2 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup finely minced brown or white button mushrooms
1 medium onion, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
1 tsp each oregano and thyme
1/4 tsp salt and fresh cracked pepper
In a large bowl, combine beef with all ingredients. Mix lightly but thoroughly to blend. Shapes into 4-6, 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick (1-2cm) patties. Preheat grill 10 minutes. Lightly oil the grill . Barbecue, broil or panfry using medium heat for 5-7 minutes per side (turning once) until an instant read thermometer inserted sideways into the centre of patties reads at least 160F (70C). Patties cooked to an internal temperature of 160F (70C) are completely cooked, regardless of colour. Serve on toasted whole-wheat buns.
